CARC 34

No newborn coverage under this plan

The plan does not extend to newborns, so claims for the infant cannot pay against the parent's coverage.

Why you actually get this

  • The newborn was not enrolled within the plan's enrolment window.
  • Services were billed under the mother's member ID rather than the infant's own.

How to check whether it’s correct

  1. 01Confirm whether the newborn was enrolled, and when.
  2. 02Check whether the claim should have gone under the infant's own identifier.

Sometimes worth appealing

Where enrolment happened inside the window but was processed late, resubmit once it is on file. Where the window was missed, the family may have an appeal with the payer that the practice cannot pursue for them.
